Team Miracle

The world is in danger and we all know the cause of it. No one can deny that our life is at stake not because of war or the conflicts between nations, it’s because of climate change. Every one must have noticed the google doodle for Earth Day. It showed the impact of climate change across four different regions on the planet, using real time-lapse imagery from Google Earth Timelapse and other sources. People all over the world get to read multiple articles and hear much news related to climate but what do we do after listening to them. Most of us ignore, maybe you don’t ignore and take all precautions to not pollute nature but what about your neighbors, your distant relatives, friends, and furthermore your whole country? Highlighting the need to take bigger steps for our mother Earth Mita Banerjee and her husband, Wing Commander (Retd). Anup Banerjee Founded Team Miracle, the social support group in Pune, helps in setting up a network chain between many NGOs so that volunteers can have easy access to connect. In the month of April, on the occasion of Earth Day, we were delighted to have Mita and Anup Banerjee enlighten us with the solution of how we can eliminate plastic. Their major purpose was to spread awareness of how we should segregate plastic and then besides recycling it we can also completely get rid of it from our planet.

She shares the story about her life and what motivated them for Team Miracle. She taught from KG to PG while she accompanied Wg Cdr Anup Anup Banerjee her husband, across the length and breadth of the country, finally retired as Director of a Media & Mass Com Institute. She became a journalist and wrote on many topics related to Health, Environment, social issues, Women Entrepreneurs, etc. “After retiring, as a journalist, I realized that there are a lot of people who need help, and the NGOs I wrote about and there are a lot of people ready to help so I decided to become a link for them,” she says. She started reaching out to others in her network for help where she discovered that help will pop out unexpectedly just like a miracle. That’s how as their daughter suggested they called it “Team Miracle”, as this cannot be possible with their strong team.

On 2nd Oct 2014 when we celebrated Swatch Bharat, where everyone

came on the road to sweep, she was also invited but she had some other idea.

“If we are cleaning roads today, then, first of all, where are you going to throw the garbage we collect and tomorrow it’s going to come back again. So we need

a permanent solution and that’s when I came across an article about Rudra Environmental Solutions,” she says.

That’s how Team Miracle connected to Rudra Environmental solutions of which she is a volunteer and helping in the Coordination and Collection of almost 40 tons of Waste Plastic (every month) across Pune.

This time she was here to teach us how we should segregate plastic in a way so that our plastic can then be processed and recycled.

Rudra Environment Solutions collects these properly segregated plastics from people and then processes them to make oil. We can also give our daily plastic garbage to them after proper segregation on which we had a workshop where not only our college’s cleaning and maintenance people were taught but also we students gained this knowledge.

That’s when we learned about how they recycle it into oil, how we can connect with them if we want to give our garbage to them, and how this oil is been used mostly in the village parts where women are still using chulas.

Team Miracle also works for many other Environmental solutions giving NGOs as well like Bamboo India, Poornaviko Vision, and Aratrika and their main motive is to teach people about waste management and spread awareness about all these solutions or we say NGOs among us. Even a plastic toothbrush that we people use daily is harmful to the environment and we have to find a way to replace them. Small-small plastic things like toothbrushes and pens should also be recycled. The major problem that they faced was that people are active the first day but then they forget, skip or don’t have time which is all just excuses.

“Keeping them motivated all along was the biggest difficulty for us but to overcome this problem, all we can do is keep is to reach out to as many people as we can that’s how we can make an environmentally friendly lifestyle a trend that will never fade. If we all join hands together then everything is possible”. Adding to this discussion Anup Banerjee says, “Nowadays people are keeping the environment their last priority because it's not giving them instant pleasure, nature is not giving us money but soon we have to realize about what nature is actually giving us.

It’s keeping us alive and we should never forget.” This is an opportunity for all the young people out there who are motivated to do work for our planet we just have to grab it as it’s easier now with Team Miracle’s help.

We should definitely take this step because if we don’t have time for nature then someday nature will not have time for us. Join Team Miracle and invite them to your society or community where they will come and teach everyone around you about waste management in detail and help you with other NGOs.
